Johnstone answers
the question "Why Study Religion
and Health?"

Brick Johnstone,
professor and chairman of the Department
of Health Psychology at University of Missouri-Columbia,
presented on "Spirituality and Chronic
Disability" at the
MU Health Ethics Conference, "Spirituality
in Health and Healing," Oct. 13, 2007.
Johnstone heads the spirituality
and health research project at the Center
on Religion & the Professions. Also
presenting were current or recent Center
affiliates Clay Anderson and David Fleming,
both with the University of Missouri School
of Medicine.
The Center recently
launched two blogs that link from its web
site. The blogs are ReligiousLife@MU,
about religious life at University of Missouri-Columbia;
and God,
Media & More, about faith, values
and spirituality in the media.

Daniel Cohen,
visiting assistant professor in the MU Department
of Religious Studies and a Center affiliate,
presented on "College Fraternity and
Sorority Membership, Religious Affiliation,
and the Separation of Church and State"
at the 2007 Academy for Educational Studies
conference at Missouri State University,
Springfield, Mo., Oct. 3-5, 2007. The conference
theme was "What Should the Role of
Religion Be in 21st Century Public Schools?"
Cohen's paper will be turned into an essay
for a book based on the conference topic.

| Pease |
Kryssy Pease,
a graduate research assistant with the Center,
was a finalist for the 2007-2008 David Kaplan
Memorial Fellowship. The fellowship, for
students interested in network field producing,
included a paid position at the ABC News
Washington Bureau. Pease is a master's student
in in-depth public affairs reporting.
The Center recently
added two features to its web site: 127
syllabi from courses around the country
that explore religion as it relates to 36
diverse disciplines; and 28 of the latest
surveys
and polls relating to religion.
