Amir Hussain is a Canadian Muslim born in Pakistan who teaches theology at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles. He specializes in the study of Islam, focusing on contemporary Muslim societies. Dr. Hussain's lecture explores how American Muslims are constructing their own American form of Islam, including immigrant and indigenous Muslims and conversion to Islam. He will also talk about the diversity of North American Muslims, including Sunni and Shia.
Dr. Hussain also studies religion and music, literature, film and popular culture. The Canadian sit-com depicts dynamics of Muslim life in North America.
A discussion and book signing follows the lecture.
