Roland Meinert
recently completed a four-year term as president
of the Missouri Association for Social Welfare,
the state's largest social justice advocacy
organization. Currently he chairs the Board
of Directors of the Missouri Protection and
Advocacy Services, which protects the legal
rights of the disabled. Meinert held appointments
as director of the Schools of Social Work
at the University of Missouri-Columbia and
Michigan State University. He was one of the
founders of the Inter-University Consortium
for International Social Development, which
promotes social justice and development efforts
worldwide. Meinert has experience in both
the private and public sectors as a counselor,
administrator, consultant, and researcher.
His research has covered a range of issues
in social welfare, including postmodernism,
social development, child welfare, professionalism,
administration and quality in graduate education.
For seven years he was co-editor of the Journal
of Social Development Issues. He is the
author of the books Social Work: Seeking
Relevance in the Twenty-First Century
and Issues in Social Work: A Critical Analysis.
Meinert received his Ph.D. from St. Louis
University.
